LAMATA TEACHERS
You're in great hands!

AVEINE GREY
Principal
After an extensive career as a professional dancer, model, and choreographer, both in the UK and abroad, I found my true vocation as a dance teacher.
I am dedicated and totally committed to LAMATA and the development of our students. I enjoy seeing them grow in confidence and technical ability, and like to nurture their creative side and individuality. I am proud of all their achievements.
We have a strong bond here at LAMATA, where our students develop friendships, trust, respect for each other and a strong sense of community.
I am determined to keep it that way!

VICKI DOWNS
Dance Teacher
I trained with Miss Aveine for nine years, during which time I was a Junior Associate of the Royal Ballet school; gained a bbodance scholarship; and a placement at Laine Theatre Arts, where I completed my teaching qualifications with distinction. After performing in various professional pantomimes and summer seasons, I was selected to duet with Wayne Sleep, in his UK tour. Following on from that I danced commercially for the 80's band Five Star. I spent the next seven years travelling all around the world as Lead Dance Captain with Carnival Cruise Lines, inaugurating the biggest cruise ship in the world at that time! I then decided to move back home to start a family, and I am now lucky enough to teach at LAMATA.
OUR STORY

LAMATA is a long established, and well respected training academy based in the North West of England near the Lake District.
Our instructors are totally committed to the teaching and wellbeing of our LAMATA dance family.
We have an abundance of talented, hard working, fun loving students throughout the school who are the heart and soul of LAMATA.
We currently follow the bbodance Examination syllabus in all genres, however our teachers have a vast and varied experience of other dance associations.
Miss Aveine, trained with the British Ballet Organization, and, at college, studied RAD and ISTD. She held a BTDA general Teachers Certificate, and holds a teaching certificate with Acrobatic Arts, and a Teaching certificate in Further Education. She is currently an Examiner with bbodance, and the advisor on their Modern syllabus. However, her favourite classes to teach are Ballet!
Miss Vicki initially trained with the British Ballet Organization, and at college studied and gained teaching Associate Certificates with the ISTD. She has since completed her bbodance Teaching Qualifications. She is our Musical Theatre specialist and heads our festival work.

OPPORTUNITIES
Here at LAMATA, we encourage students to be themselves and embrace their own talents. Students are encouraged to take any available opportunity and to create their own opportunities!
We take advantage of external classes and auditions available, both locally and within the UK with students previously successfully auditioning for dance schemes such as bbodance Ballet and Jazz Scholars.
Many students take part in local theatre group shows and performances, either as performers or as part of the technical and behind-the-scenes team.
TLC
TLCTLCLAMATA is affiliated to TLC (www.tlctheatreuk.com) who currently hold drama classes
at the LAMATA studios on a Thursday.
Students can study LAMDA acting exams through TLC and TLC is also affiliated to several children’s agencies.
bbodance Examinations
We follow the bbodance (British Ballet Organization) syllabus and offer examinations in:
Ballet, Tap, Modern, AcroDancer and Musical Theatre.
Although advisable for self-esteem and achievement, these examinations are optional not compulsory. There is a charge for examinations from the examination board. All examination expenses are included. LAMATA does not benefit from examination charges. Examination students must attend extra exam coaching lessons.
Festival Work
Students are able to compete in dance festivals and competitions should they wish to.
We do not discriminate as to which students may undertake Festival work but please be aware of the time, commitment and expense necessary involved in dance festivals.
The added advantage of festival work is that children receive private tuition which strengthens their understanding of correct dance technique. Confidence is promoted as children develop their own solo performances on a stage as well as opportunities to perform as a group.
There is team building and enjoyment involved, however, please be aware that this is also a competitive environment.

STUDENTS
Truly Top-Notch
Our students describe LAMATA as their second family. They range in age from 3 to 18, and many form life-long friendships.
The school is full of fun, laughter, compassion, hard work and loyalty. Older students look out for the younger ones, and are always willing to help out wherever they can.
Our students have been awarded places on many Scholarship schemes including at The Royal Ballet School and bbodance Ballet and Jazz Scholars.
Students have gone on to train at top Vocational Theatre Schools including Laine Theatre Arts, London Studio Centre, Italia Conti Academy Central Ballet School, Arts Educational College, Northern Ballet School, the Hammond School and Elmhurst Ballet School.
Many have gone on to work professionally in London's West End, T.V, on cruise ships and many Ballet companies. Others now teach in the UK and abroad.

Dancing to some people is a hobby or learning a new skill but being part of LAMATA is a lot more than that! You make lifelong friends, memories that you will talk about for the rest of your life and
you gain a whole extra family!
It sets you up for life, the art of discipline and confidence with a huge element of fun! It is without a doubt that I would not be where I am or who I am if it wasn’t for Miss Aveine and the LAMATA family!
Claire
Having danced from the age of 4 years old for Miss Aveine myself, it felt only natural to send my daughter to start her dancing adventures at LAMATA.
My daughter looks forward to going every week and absolutely loves doing the festivals and is growing strong in her confidence and ability.
This is all thanks to Miss Aveine and Miss Vicki.
LAMATA is a professional, successful and supportive dance school
Annabel
My girls and I have been a part of the LAMATA family for the past 15 years. My girls have the most amazing teachers and they have taught them so much including skills for life whilst teaching them how to dance.
My eldest daughter found such a love for dance whilst at LAMATA that she is now studying for a BA Hons in Musical Theatre and Dance at a Vocational Performing Arts college in Essex.
Nichola
I danced with Miss Aveine for many years. Such fond memories and many happy times spent with her at the studio.
I now live in Toronto, Canada and have taught dance for close to 30 yrs. I just hope I have been a positive influence and given my students what she gave to me throughout those years.
Adele
My daughter Xenna went to LAMATA and she loved it ! She took place in festivals,
and the friends she made there are for life!
She went from 3 years old until 16, best money I ever spent as she still loves going and watching
Ballet and Musical Theatre!
Miss Aviene is one of the loveliest people I know, and if my granddaughters lived
in Morecambe they would definitely go!!
Beverley
Miss Aveine taught me so much, not only about dancing, but respect, confidence & skills I will have for the rest of my life.
LAMATA isn’t just a dance school - they are a family who will love & support you. There is no other like it & I’m fortunate to you been part of that family
Jodie
LAMATA is such a comfortable, family and friendly environment. I joined the LAMATA family at the age of 4 and I left at 17 to peruse my dance training.
Miss Aviene is always supportive and I wouldnt be where I am today if it wasnt for her.
She helped me get into bbodance Jazz Scholars and the North West CAT Scheme and also helped me complete my Level 4 Teaching Qualifications.
When I wanted to further my career she helped me once again!
Thank you Miss Aveine for everything!
Abigail
